The Value of Nonstress Test in Postterm Pregnancy

Abstract
Clinical results of 336 cases of post-term pregnancy according to NST and OCT were observed and analyzed in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chonnam University, for the past 24 months, between Jan, 1, 1983 and Dec. 31, 1984.
The Results were follows;
1. The spontaneous onset of labor pain in the postdate delivery group (336) was seen in 97 (58.4%) of the primiparous group (166), and 137 (80.6%) of the multiparous group (234).
Cesarean section without labor pain was performed in 41 (24.7%) of the primiparous group and in 15 (8.8%) of the multiparous group.
2. The incidence of Oxytocin induction delivery was 16.9% and 10.6% for the primiparous and multiparous respectively, 5 (17.9%) of above primiparous group was failed and had cesarean section, 1 (5.6%) of above multiparous group had total abdominal hysterectomy.
3. The methods of delivery were spontaneous, cesarean section, vacuu extraction and breech extraction, in which incidences were 63.4%, 18.2%, 15,2 and 3.2% respectively.
4. The incidence of prolonged labor was 23.5% and 7.0% in the primiparous and multiparous of the postdate delivery group.
5. NST of 61 of post-term pregnancy group showed reactive pattern in 53 cases (86.9%), nonreactive in 8 cases (13.1 %).
6. OCT of 55 of post-term pregnancy group showed positive pattern in 21 cases (38.2%), negative in 34 cases (61.8%).
7. In 8 NST nonreactive cases, 7 (87.5¡Æ0) revealed meconium, 4 (50%) fetal distress and 2 of them cesarean section for fetal distress.
In 53 NST reactive cases, above facts showed more or less 10%.
8. In 21 OCT positive cases, 90.0% revealed fetal distress and 40% cesarean section for fetal distress.
In 34 OCT negative cases, 8.6% showed fetal distress, and 5.7% cesarean section for fetal distress.
9. Postmaturity signs and symptoms were noted in 7.5% out of 53 NST reactive, 87.5% out of 8 NST nonreactive, and 28.6% out of OCT positive. 10. The number of perinatal morbidity was 7 (87.65%) in NST negative 10(18.9%) in NST reactive and 19 (90.5%) in OCT positive.
11. The incidence of perinatal mortality was 4.8% (1 case) in OCT positve but, none in any case of NST.
